Cleaning Mitt

Housecleaning has been the bane of my existence, as long as I can remember. At the venerable age of 50 years, I finally came to accept the fact I would never be called "maid of the year." I think my stubbornness stems from my belief that housekeeping is largely useless. Take the kitchen, for example. I would spend an hour or two, he rubbed perfectly spotless, only to prepare a meal and grease splashed counters and cabinets burrs challenge stare back at me. In my heart I knew only that all the dust in my home district chosen as his final resting place. Things accumulated on the blinds, the frames on the ceiling fans on the knickknacks – and of course on coffee tables and above the TV.

My shortcomings as a housekeeper has never been more evident than when I was visiting my two best friends. To say they are Tidy is an understatement. To promote the dust would not dare cross the threshold of their homes. I suspect that one of my Friends cleans her house with the idea that Martha Stewart will be posted every day to give the white glove test, while the other spends part of each Saturday morning on a step in cleaning up its door frames. On more than once, I found myself rolling my eyes, wondering if they have not the means more productive to spend their time. At bottom, however, I was just a tad bit envious. After all, it's not that I dislike the peace a clean house, housekeeping simply never left the top of my list of priorities.

About one last year, my perspective changed when the three of us were at lunch and a friend mentioned in passing that she had lost her glove cleaning. My other friend was empathetic, and I sat back as the two discussed the wonders of a cleaning cloth which last made a breeze. As they waxed poetic on a damp mirafiber was washed, bleaching, and guaranteed for five years, I realized they did not spend much time on the household. Rather, they had found a product that housekeeping was a breeze.

Although it was contrary to my nature, I decided to give the ultimate canvas to try. What I found was revealing. Basically, I could clean my entire house (and my car) with water and a rag. I do not need a whole cabinet full of cleaning supplies, and I had not wasting paper towels. Instead, I was able to wet the cloth, wring it out, wipe the surface I was cleaning, and then walk in knowing that everything was at all. I even received a cleaning glove, which has worked great for blinds, ceiling fans, and small objects.

I'll never be called "maid of the Year", but my ultimate cloth, I found that keeping my house clean should not be a unpleasant chore. I do not have to choose between having a clean house and do things like that. Now I can "clean as I go" and keep my house spic and span, and still have plenty of time for the things in life that are most important to me.
