• Upright Vacuum Cleaner, this is the basic vacuum cleaner and is meant to take off dirt and dust from carpets. Uprights are sometimes found to be difficult to move due to size and weight.

• Canister Vacuum Cleaner, this is a handy, portable type of vacuum cleaner. The long hose on this vacuum means that you do not have to move the entire machine just to vacuum your floors. Power heads make these vacuums as or even more effective than uprights. A disadvantage is the tendency of the hose to plug.

• Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, the latest addition to this technology. It makes using a vacuum fun when an electronic servant is doing the job and you just sit, watch and praise. These machines are efficient but the drawback is that they might be too complex to handle. Obviously you can’t expect them to climb down stairs and pick up furniture to clean the debris under neath.

• Cordless Vacuum Cleaners, just recently cordless vacuums have become available. These models offer the advantage of being able to vacuum without constantly having to move the power cord to a new outlet. Most are very light in weight. The disadvantages are a lack of power and the fact that eventually batteries loose their ability to hold a charge and must be replaced.
